York Housing Association has Sheltered Schemes in York and Rothwell, Leeds. The York based schemes are Margaret Phillipson Court, Lichfield Court and Bretgate. In Rothwell the scheme is at Pasture View Road. Applications are invited from those over fifty five years of age.

Tenants are supported by a part-time Sheltered Housing Support Worker. The hours normally worked are Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm. You will be enabled to decide just what level of support you need and this will be reviewed annually or more frequently if you wish.

You may elect to receive a daily call from your Sheltered Housing Support Worker, or have a visit, either every day or once/twice a week.

Each scheme is linked to a 24 hour emergency call system. Tenants are able to summon help through 'pull cords' situated throughout their homes.

Your Sheltered Housing Support Worker can help you with:

  • Safety and security for yourself and your home.
  • Establishing social contacts and finding activities.
  • Make referrals to other agencies, including welfare benefits.
  • Use the Community Centre (please note Lichfield Court does not have a Community Centre).
  • Introduce you to other tenants.
  • Provide details of social activities - generally at the community centre.
  • Become involved with York Housing Association - we have customer panels, tenants associations, tenants newsletters, 'YHA in bloom', and special days and events.
  • Local information

Your Housing Officer will also have a surgery every fortnight at which you can discuss any concerns you may have - for example, with understanding your rent statement, neighbour related issues.

Further information can be found on the schemes.
