Development Services

The Property Team provides a comprehensive development service, meeting identified needs for family and supported housing, and managing a programme of planned maintenance for the Association. Both in the maintenance of existing stock and in new development, we always try to implement responsible environmental policies, minimising environmental damage and CO2 emissions. Recent schemes include The Arclight ‘Places of Change’ project, and 8 houses at Boundary Close based on the “Passivhaus” standard, both in York. Arc Light features a green roof and solar hot water heating and the Boundary Close houses will require minimal heating input thanks to very high levels of insulation and draught-sealing. We continue to carry out programmes of heating kitchen, and bathroom replacement on our existing stock.

The Association is one of the partners involved in the re-development of the Discus bungalows sites in York, providing new, energy efficient homes for the former Discus tenants, together with an extra-care scheme and a number of general needs homes for rent and sale.

Working alongside the Operations Department, the Property Team plays a key role in setting up partnerships with outside bodies. This includes:

Working with other agencies including Local Authorities, Primary Care Trusts, the Wilf Ward Family Trust, United Response, MENCAP etc to find opportunities for future development and new schemes. For links to any of our partner organisations go to our links page.

Acting as a development agent for other Housing Associations who do not have their own development staff. We work currently with Family Housing Association (York) and Tuke Housing Association.

Working closely with Local Authorities in Ryedale, Scarborough and York to provide temporary accommodation for homeless families by leasing homes from private owners. In York there are grants available for property renovation.

If you organisation would like more information on any aspect of the Associations Development Services, please contact John Gilham, Development & Property Director on 01904 636061 or email johngilham@yorkha.org.uk
