Overview
Its housing is a mixture of general needs accommodation for single people, couples and families, sheltered housing accommodation for older people and supported housing for vulnerable people with support needs, people with mental ill health and people with learning disabilities. Where high levels of support are needed, the Association works with managing agents who provide these more specialist services to our tenants. The Association also provides housing for students, working in conjunction with the University of York. As well as providing accommodation and services to people who are our own tenants, the Association provides support services to people who are tenants of other landlords. The Association believes that affordable housing is central to any society’s aims of improving the quality of life, having a direct impact on employment, social exclusion, education, health and family life. The whole environment and good quality design is key to the building of sustainable neighbourhoods. Schemes at Rothwell in Leeds bringing the whole community together to build a hedgerow which now forms the boundary fence and at Fieldside Place in York, providing a sustainable housing to encourage tenants to live together in an environmentally friendly spaces are just a few examples demonstrating how the Association is working with neighbourhoods.
