Another busy week for Close Harmony
Close Harmony enchant audience at Sandy Lane Methodist Church on March 25th 2009
Following on from their performance at Twyford two weeks ago (see Close Harmony triumph at Twyford - March 10th), the group were invited to entertain the Ladies' Fellowship Leaugue with an hour's programme of singing in the Sandy Lane Methodist Church on March 25th. Several members from Global Harmony came along too to see their friends from the big choir perform as an ensemble.
Everyone in the audience was delighted with the variety of songs they were treated to and with the group's ability to adopt the many different syles necessary to deliver them. Perhaps contrasting highlights were - a very moving rendering of a haunting song still sung in basilicas today after many centuries as part of the Russian Orthodox Church service, and a rather whacky, zany portrayal of what happens at weddings in Bulgaria. Peppered with the sweet and delicate and the fiery and the comic, the audience were taken on an emotional roller coaster around the world with a few favourites from our own age and culture thrown in.
Well done, Close Harmony! There's no doubt that your reputation as a good evening's entertainment is spreading. Here's to your next appearance at Pickwell Church on Saturday June 13th.
Close Harmony triumph at Twyford - March 10th 2009
Close Harmony gave a stunning performance last night (March 10th) to a delighted audience at Twyford Village Hall. The ensemble had been booked as the pre-supper entertainment for the Village Hall Supporters Association. The hour's programme covered a wide range of cultures and styles which the group delivered with great authenticity and passion. You could hear a pin drop during those songs full of hauntingly beautiful pathos, and the rafters shook when full power was unleashed on ebullient African or stentorian Eastern European pieces.
Congratulations to the group on it's first paid performance and particularly to the 4 new members who only joined Close Harmony in January but blended in as if they had always been there.
